Please note: The map pin takes you to the entrance gate only. The yurt is further along our private riverside track and cannot be reached directly by GPS.

🚗 When You Arrive

Pete or Claire will meet you at the entrance gate.

We’ll:

  • Welcome you to the camp.
  • Show you how to use the combination lock.
  • Explain how to lock the gate correctly.
  • Guide you along the track to the yurt.

There are two gates on the access track.

Gate One

This gate must always be locked after you pass through it, even if you’re only leaving camp for a short time.

Gate Two

This gate does not need to be locked but must always be closed.

🚜 Driving to the Camp

After the entrance gates you’ll follow a long raised track alongside the river.

  • Keep the river (Wallers Haven) on your right.
  • Stay on the raised track at all times.
  • Do not drive onto the surrounding marshland—you will get stuck.
  • Continue until you reach Loiter Pin Field where the camp is located.

The track can become muddy after wet weather, so please drive carefully.

We recommend:

  • Bringing wellies if the weather has been wet.
  • Bringing a torch if you’re arriving later in the day.
  • Arriving before dark whenever possible.

🚗 Directions from London (M23)

  1. Take the A27 East towards Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings.
  2. Continue past Eastbourne.
  3. At the roundabout with the BP Garage, Marks & Spencer Food and Starbucks, turn left towards Wartling.
  4. Continue for approximately 2 miles.
  5. As you enter Wartling you’ll see The Lamb Inn on your right.
  6. Turn right immediately beside the pub.
    • Please do not take the later fork by the red telephone box.
  7. Turn left after the pub car park onto Horsewalk.
  8. Follow the single-track lane down the hill.
  9. Cross the bridge over Wallers Haven.
  10. You’ll see the pumping station and the entrance gate shortly afterwards.

🚗 Directions from London (A21)

  1. Follow the A21 via Tunbridge Wells towards Battle.
  2. After Robertsbridge take the A2100 towards Battle.
  3. Continue through Battle, passing Battle Abbey.
  4. At the mini roundabout turn right onto Powder Mill Lane (B2204) towards Catsfield and Ninfield.
  5. Continue through Catsfield into Ninfield.
  6. At the roundabout turn left (Kings Arms directly ahead).
  7. Then turn right onto the B2095 towards Hooe.
  8. Continue for approximately 3 miles.
  9. Turn right onto the single-track lane called Horsewalk.
  10. Follow the road downhill, over the small bridge and continue until you reach our entrance gate beside the pumping station.

🛒 Shopping Nearby

For supplies you’ll find:

  • Ninfield Post Office & Village Shop
  • Marks & Spencer Food at the BP garage in Pevensey
  • Asda (around 20 minutes away towards Eastbourne)

🏊 Swimming

You’re very welcome to enjoy the river.

Please note that swimming is entirely at your own risk.

There is a jetty with a ladder for access, but it is not suitable for young children.

🌿 Looking After the Camp

Burning Heart River Camp is surrounded by beautiful wildlife including kingfishers, owls, badgers, peregrine falcons and many other wonderful creatures.

Please help us keep it special.

  • Leave no trace.
  • Respect the wildlife.
  • Stay on the paths and tracks.
  • Please don’t leave litter behind.

🧹 Before You Leave

We’d be grateful if you could leave the camp as you found it.

Before departing please:

  • Wash and put away all kitchen equipment.
  • Leave the accommodation clean and tidy.
  • Dispose of rubbish as instructed.
  • Check carefully for any personal belongings.
  • Let us know if anything has been accidentally damaged during your stay.

If you experience any problems during your stay, please let us know within 24 hours of arrival, or as soon as any issue arises, so we have the opportunity to put things right.
